New tropical depression forms in the Atlantic; Tropical Storm Jose expected to weaken
MIAMI (AP) ' A new tropical depression has formed in the Atlantic south of the Cape Verde Islands and could soon become a tropical storm.
The depression has maximum sustained winds early Monday near 35 mph (55 kph). But the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami says it's expected to strengthen and could become a tropical storm later in the day.
The depression is centered about 395 miles (635 kilometers) south-southwest of the southernmost Cape Verde Islands and is moving west around 15 mph (24 kph).
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Jose is moving quickly northward in the north Atlantic and is expected to begin losing steam. Jose's maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 kph). But weakening is forecast and the hurricane center says Jose is expected to dissipate by early Tuesday.
