Obama looks to Mich. to revive clean energy debate
Obama touts Mich. wind turbine company, but skeptics question if there's enough jobs payoff
By The Associated Press

HOLLAND, Mich. (AP) ' President Barack Obama is touting a Michigan company that makes wind energy turbines as an example of an industry trying to create forward-thinking jobs ' with a little help from the government.

During his State of the Union Address on Tuesday night, Obama cited Holland-based wind turbine blade manufacturer Energetx Composites. He even invited one of its workers, Bryan Ritterby, to sit in the first lady's box during the speech.

The factory made luxury yachts before the recession, but it diversified to add wind energy products when times got tough.

It's received millions in government assistance ' including a $27.3 million state grant that will be issued only if it produces thousands of jobs.

Some skeptics question if the number of jobs produced is worth the government grant money.
