Obama to rail against House GOP budget plan backed by Romney
WASHINGTON (AP) ' President Barack Obama is expected to sharply criticize a budget plan passed by House Republicans that the White House says would hurt middle-class families.
White House advisers say Obama, in a speech to newspaper executives, is expected to strike back at a $3.5 trillion budget proposal led by Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin which passed on a near-party-line vote last week.
The plan has met sharp resistance from Democrats, who say it would undermine Medicare, slash taxes for the wealthy and lead to deep cuts across government.
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has backed the plan, which lays out Republicans' fiscal priorities.
It has little chance of passing the Democratic-controlled Senate but White House advisers say it demonstrates the choice that voters will have later this year.
