Official: Sudan bombs 3 areas in a South Sudan state, killing 2, wounding 9
NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) ' An official says Sudanese jets bombed three areas in South Sudan's Unity State, including a major oil field.
South Sudan military spokesman Col. Philip Aguer said Antonov bombers accompanied by MiG 29 jets bombed the town of Abiemnom in Unity State and the Unity State oil field. Aguer says Abiemnom is a two-hour drive from Rubkona which was also bombed Monday morning leaving two people dead and at least nine wounded.
He says the extent of damage of the bombing on the Unity oil field is not known, including the number of casualties, as communication is extremely difficult. He says fighting between ground troops, which started Sunday in Panakuac, Laloba and Teshwin, is still ongoing.
Sudan and South Sudan have been drawing closer to a full-scale war in recent months over the unresolved issues of sharing oil revenues and the disputed border.
