Ohio jury hung on verdict in girl's '67 killing
Jurors fail to reach verdict in murder trial of man accused of killing Ohio schoolgirl in 1967
By The Associated Press

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) ' Jurors have failed to reach a verdict in the murder trial of a man accused of killing an Ohio schoolgirl in 1967 after holding her captive in his basement.

A judge in Toledo dismissed jurors Wednesday after they said they were deadlocked after deliberating about 12 hours over two days. A unanimous verdict is required for conviction or acquittal.

Robert Bowman was charged with killing the teenager, who disappeared after school nearly 44 years ago. Her body was found weeks later in southern Michigan.

Police first connected him with the killing in 1981 when his former wife told police she saw the girl tied up in their basement back in 1967.

But investigators didn't charge Bowman until five years ago when they say DNA linked him to the killing.
