Old Farmer's Almanac: Hot topics are saving money, making mac and cheese _ and spit
DUBLIN, N.H. (AP) ' This year's edition of "The Old Farmer's Almanac" is full of household tips that its editor hopes will resonate with people looking to save money and simplify their lives in tough economic times.
In the 2012 edition that comes out Tuesday, one reader suggests recycling saved greeting cards by adding new messages.
Another advises snipping single ripped legs off of two pairs of pantyhose and layering them to create a pair that's good as new.
Editor Janice Stillman says those ideas were among the winners of this year's essay contest that asked readers to write about their best original money-saving habits.
The 220-year-old book is believed to be the oldest continuously published periodical in North America.
