Olympic officials show off athletes' village ahead of 2012 London games
LONDON (AP) ' British officials have shown off a gleaming new apartment in the London Olympics athletes' village as they announced a milestone ' more than 2012 of the units are now complete.
Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt and Olympic Delivery Authority chief executive Dennis Hone took in the sweeping view of Olympic Park from the apartment's balcony Tuesday as they declared the project firmly on schedule.
Some 17,000 athletes will stay in the village, which will have 2,818 units when completed.
Hunt and Hone visited an apartment that will be turned over to affordable housing after the 2012 games. Others will be rented or owned, creating a new London neighborhood.
