Oral arguments set in 9th Circuit in Loughner case
9th Circuit Court of Appeals to hear oral arguments over Tucson shooting suspect's treatment
By The Associated Press

PHOENIX (AP) ' The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco will hear oral arguments via teleconference Thursday afternoon in the case of Tucson shooting rampage suspect Jared Lee Loughner.

Loughner's attorneys are contesting a ruling that would have sent him back to a Springfield, Mo., prison facility for four more months of psychological treatment.

They also are opposed to the government's forced medication of Loughner with psychotropic drugs. Prison therapists are trying to make him mentally fit for trial.

The 23-year-old Loughner is being held at a Tucson prison after attending a court hearing last week over his mental health.

He has pleaded not guilty to 49 charges stemming from the Jan. 8 shooting that killed six and injured 13, including U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
