Pa., W.Va., Ohio vie for huge new Shell gas plant
Shell to decide by end of year where to locate huge new gas plant: Pa., Ohio or W. Va.
By The Associated Press

PITTSBURGH (AP) ' Shell Oil Co. says it's nearing a decision on where to build a huge new petrochemical refinery in the Appalachians. It's a project that could bring thousands of construction and production jobs.

The plans are driven by the vast natural gas reserves discovered in the Marcellus Shale, a deep formation that lies beneath New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and parts of other states.

Experts say the multibillion-dollar project is unlike anything seen in the region for decades. Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia are competing for the plant. Other companies are also considering similar projects in the region.
