Pa. jury weighs death of adopted Russian boy; parents say they sought help for his self-abuse
By The Associated Press

YORK, Pa. (AP) ' A Pennsylvania jury is weighing murder charges in the case of a couple charged with killing their adopted Russian son.

Michael and Nanette Craver say 7-year-old Nathaniel had a history of injuring himself.

The Cravers adopted him and a twin sister after the children spent 18 months in a Russian hospital and orphanage.

Defense lawyer Rick Robinson says the Cravers spent years trying to get Nathaniel help for fetal alcohol syndrome and other problems.

They say the fatal 2009 head injury occurred when he ran into a pellet stove.

But York County prosecutors say the Dillsburg couple abused Nathaniel and killed him with repeated blows to the head.

Russian authorities and media outlets are watching the verdict after a string of U.S. deaths involving adopted Russian children.
