Pakistan president considers names for new PM
After court ruling, Pakistan's president consider replacement for outgoing prime minister
By The Associated Press

ISLAMABAD (AP) ' Pakistan's president and his political allies are trying to come up with a new candidate to replace the dismissed prime minister.

The Supreme Court ousted Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday because he failed to authorize a graft investigation into President Asif Ali Zardari.

The government has no plans to appeal the verdict or defy the court order.

Maula Bukhsh Chandio, a law minister in Gilani's outgoing Cabinet, said Wednesday the coalition had given Zardari the power to choose a candidate, who has to be elected by lawmakers.

Media reports have speculated on three possible picks, all members of the outgoing Cabinet, and that the assembly will choose by Friday.

The coalition partners will insist on concessions for their support for a new premier, so the process may not be smooth.
