Perry supports English as official language in US
Perry endorses English, agrees with voter who expresses frustration over multiple languages
By The Associated Press

MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) ' Republican presidential hopeful Rick Perry is endorsing English as the national language.

A voter at a county Republican Party fundraiser in Iowa on Friday expressed frustration with seeing products carrying directions in multiple languages, and said he'd like English to be made the official language of the United States.

Perry told the man that he agreed with him.

The Texas governor is looking to gain traction with conservatives just days before Iowa's leadoff caucuses.

Earlier this week, Perry strengthened his opposition to abortion rights, saying he opposes the procedure even in cases of rape and incest. He later amended that position to allow a sole exception for the life of the mother.
