Photoshop CS3 Portrait Retouching Techniques: Basic Cleanup
In this clip, host Chris Orwig shows how to clean up areas of a portrait
By Chris Orwig

In Photoshop CS3 Portrait Retouching Techniques, Lynda.com instructor and professional photographer Chris Orwig teaches the entire process of retouching a portrait, from start to finish. From removing distractions and softening skin to improving the quality of light, Chris demonstrates how to enhance an image and achieve high-end professional results. This course applies and expands on the skills introduced in Photoshop CS3 Portrait Retouching Essentials.

In this Lynda.com video, host Chris Orwig covers some of the basics for cleaning up images using such tools as the healing brush tool and the clone stamp tool. He shows how to make the healing brush larger, how to sample source and sample areas, and also details some keyboard shortcuts to more quickly perform these jobs, including creating new layers as well as looking at the before and after versions of the image. After the quick clean up, he works with the clone stamp tool to clean up the black background, fixes some flyaway hairs on the model, and continues to sample from different areas of the image.
