Plans in Denmark to set up a play based on Norway mass killer create a stir
COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) ' A Danish theater is drawing criticism for plans to stage a play based on the manifesto of the man whose bomb-and-shooting spree killed 77 in Norway.
Christian Lollike, head of the small Cafe Teateret, says the idea is to use confessed killer Anders Behring Breivik's text and enter his mind set as a means of avoiding a repeat of the July 22 rampage.
Lollike told Thursday's edition of the Politiken newspaper that "it was a terrible tragedy" but "it can happen again." Lollike was not available for comments.
Relatives of the victims said the monologue "is an acceptance of his acts," while Danish lawmakers harshly condemned the idea but said they would not intervene, citing the freedom of speech.
The play "Manifesto 2083" is expected to open Aug. 23.
