Polish defense minister resigns after report blames officials for president's plane crash
WARSAW, Poland (AP) ' Poland's defense minister has stepped down in light of a new report that put most of the blame for last year's presidential plane crash on Polish officials and procedures.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Friday he accepted the resignation of Defense Minister Bogdan Klich due to the report.
Klich had submitted the resignation the night before in anticipation of the report. Among other things, it cites a lack of proper cooperation among the crew and an overly slow reaction to an automatic terrain warning system that warned pilots they were flying too low.
The report also blames Russian air traffic controllers.
The crash in April 2010 in Russia killed Poland's President Lech Kaczynski, his wife and 94 top military and civilian officials.
