Police say woman sexually assaulted on rowing trip
Police: Woman sexually assaulted during Lake Michigan fund-raising trip for cancer survivors
By The Associated Press

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) Jenn Gibbons set off five weeks ago on 1,500-mile solo rowing journey around Lake Michigan to raise money for breast cancer survivors, blogging along the way. Police say someone following her voyage online may have used the information to do her harm.

Police say the 27-year-old was sexually assaulted about 4 a.m. Sunday in the vessel's cabin while moored along the shore in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. She's going public about the ordeal, hoping it helps catch the assailant and sends a message of strength to others who've been assaulted.

Gibbons is co-founder of a rowing team for breast cancer survivors. She was making the trip to raise money for new boats.

Gibbons says she'll continue her journey by bike and boat. But she'll no longer travel alone.
