Police: At least 5 hurt in Indianapolis shooting
Police: At least 5 hurt during shooting as throng celebrates St. Patrick's in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) ' Authorities say gunfire erupted from a car as throngs were celebrating St. Patrick's Day in Indianapolis and at least five people were hurt.

Indianapolis Pulbic Safety Director Frank Straub said shots were fired Saturday evening near the Downtown Canal on the city's west side. He told The Indianapolis Star ( ) that the shots sent peope rushing from the area and that police stopped a car afterward. Police did not immediately report any arrests.

Police spokeswoman Linda Jackson told the paper one person was in critical condition and the others were in serious condition at area hospitals. She told the paper that all of the victims were teen-agers but didn't identify them or elaborate on the injuries.

Police blocked off the area and began investigating as nighttime storms moved in.
