Mo. police: Ill. woman suspected of shooting 2 children arrested after hitting 3 pedestrians
EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) ' Missouri police say they've arrested an Illinois woman suspected in the shotgun deaths of her two youngest children after she allegedly hit three pedestrians with her car.
Investigators haven't identified the woman arrested Wednesday night in St. Louis after East St. Louis police found the bodies of a 4-year-old girl and 5-year-old boy in the family's apartment.
Illinois State Police Capt. James Morrisey says investigators have interviewed the woman and "have an understanding" of why the shootings happened. But he wouldn't elaborate.
No charges have been filed.
Relatives say the woman had recently been prescribed medication to treat depression or a mental illness.
Police say her 8-year-old son fled the apartment unharmed and is in a relative's custody.
Authorities say the pedestrians' injuries weren't life-threatening.
