The Gulfport Green Wave baseball team held tryouts over the weekend at 19th Street Park. Head Coach Jeffrey Barney, along with his 12-year-old slugger Elijia, plans to have an even better season than last year. Over 120 kids between the ages of 8 and 13 came to the park to showcase their skills in order to join the Wave. Coach Barney tells News 25 the expectations are high for the Wave, especially with more eyes on his team and his son. “This team is going to be working really hard. My 11-year-old team is coming off a World Series win. My 12-year-old team is coming off a 55 win season. It’s going to be big for the whole organization this year. Everybody is going to have to take it a step up.” Coach Barney wants to continue to raise awareness about the baseball talent that is here on the Gulf Coast.   [READ MORE]
