Police: Revenge may be motive in toddler shooting
Police: Revenge possible motive in California shooting of 2 toddlers, pregnant woman
By The Associated Press

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) ' Police say a man who shot and killed a toddler and critically injured a pregnant mother and her 3-year-old daughter may have had revenge as a motive.

San Bernardino police Lt. Gwendolyn Waters said Tuesday the unidentified suspect was assaulting a woman earlier in the day when a man who lived at the toddlers' address intervened.

Police believe the suspect then went to the home late Monday and opened fire, hitting the pregnant woman and two children.

The 3-year-old girl, Nylah Franco-Torrez, was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

The pregnant woman and her 3-year-old daughter are in critical but stable condition.

The woman, who is five months pregnant, was shot in the neck and jaw.

The surviving child was also shot in the head.
