Decision looms: Whether US student charged with webcam spying on roommate will testify
By The Associated Press

NEW BRUNWSICK, New Jersey (AP) ' A major decision looms for the former U.S. student accused of using a webcam to spy on his roommate's intimate encounter with another man: whether to testify at his own trial.

Defense lawyers for the Indian-born Dharun Ravi began calling witnesses on Friday, indicating that the trial is nearly finished.

Ravi is charged with 15 criminal counts, including invasion of privacy and bias intimidation. His roommate, Tyler Clementi, committed suicide in September 2010, just days after the alleged spying.

The case has drawn national attention to the challenges facing gays and lesbians in U.S. society.

Ravi and his lawyers will need to decide if there's anything to gain by having him testify.
