Premier North Korean orchestra is Paris-bound
North Korea's premier orchestra heading to Paris for joint performance with French musicians
By The Associated Press

PYONGYANG, North Korea (AP) ' A premier North Korean orchestra is heading to Paris for a joint performance with French musicians.

Musicians from the Unhasu Orchestra left Pyongyang on Friday and will meet up in France with South Korean conductor Chung Myung-whun.

Chung will be leading the North Koreans and the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra in an unusual cultural collaboration.

Paris and Pyongyang do not have formal diplomatic relations, but France opened an office in North Korea last year to foster cultural exchanges.

Chung says he wanted to hold a joint performance involving musicians from rival North and South Korea. But with tensions still high between the two Koreas, he arranged to bring the Unhasu Orchestra to Paris instead.
