Probe sought in Army Corps of Engineers bribe case
Congressman seeks investigation in Army Corps of Engineers bribery, kickback case
By The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) ' A House Democrat is calling for an investigation into accusations of a $20 million fraud involving two employees of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Rep. Tim Bishop, top Democrat on the subcommittee with oversight of the Army Corps of Engineers, sought the investigation on Wednesday. The call came one day after the unsealing of an indictment charging the two employees and two other men in a scheme to steer contracts to an information technology company in exchange for kickbacks.

Bishop says Congress should immediately investigate how the alleged fraud was able to occur undetected for years and what the Army Corps of Engineers is doing to prevent similar frauds.

The defendants are due in federal court Thursday for a hearing to determine if they'll remain in jail before trial.
