Mailer's son slams weekly father co-founded, says Village Voice helps sell children for sex
NEW YORK (AP) ' The son of Norman Mailer has joined others in protesting the Village Voice, the New York City weekly his late father co-founded that's now accused of running ads peddling underage prostitutes.
Actor and writer John Buffalo Mailer marched Thursday with about 100 protesters from a park to the Voice's East Village offices. They say the weekly's parent company should shut down its Backpage.com adult classified section because it allegedly includes ads linked to child sex-trafficking.
Mailer said the site hurts the paper's credibility and his father would not approve.
Calls by The Associated Press to the Voice for comment were not immediately returned. Phoenix-based Village Voice Media, which operates the paper, also did not respond. The company has previously defended the site, saying its staff screens the ads.
