In final days before deadline, reasons to believe _ and doubt _ NBA deal can get done in time
NEW YORK (AP) ' Owners improved their offer and could do it again.
The players said they're staying at their number.
There's reason to believe a new NBA labor agreement could get done by Monday's deadline, and plenty more ' millions of them, as in the dollars separating owners and players ' to think it won't happen.
There have been no formal discussions since Tuesday, when players rejected the owners' idea of a 50-50 split of revenues. Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver said that offer showed "even more potential movement on our part" and that owners "haven't made a secret of the fact that we'd very much like to make a deal."
The sides have a couple more days to try. If they fail, Commissioner David Stern said he will cancel the first two weeks of the regular season on Monday.
