Report on military pensions delayed
Advisory panel delays report on military pensions after draft created uproar
By The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) ' A Pentagon advisory panel has delayed an expected report on how the military might find savings in its pension system.

The Defense Business Board said Wednesday that its final report and recommendations on retirement pay won't be ready this month, as expected, and will likely take a couple more weeks. No reason was given for the delay.

Though the report would be advisory and nonbinding, a draft late last month created an uproar among troops and retirees by suggesting that the current system be ended and replaced with a savings plan.

To calm the military community, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta later said that any changes should exempt current troops and retirees.
