Report: Pakistan deploys air defense weapons to Afghan border after NATO airstrikes
ISLAMABAD (AP) ' Pakistan's head of military operations says the country has deployed air defense weapons to the Afghan border after NATO airstrikes last month killed 24 Pakistani soldiers.
Maj. Gen. Ashfaq Nadeem was quoted Friday as saying the military feared future attacks and the border posts were only armed with light weapons.
The report in Pakistan's leading English-language newspaper, Dawn, said Nadeem briefed the federal Cabinet and the Senate's defense committee on the weapons deployment Thursday.
Pakistan and the U.S. have provided different accounts of why NATO aircraft attacked two army posts on the Afghan border before dawn on Nov. 26.
The Pakistan army has claimed the attack was pre-planned and deliberate ' an allegation denied by the United States.
