Condoleezza Rice says prospects for Mideast peace have worsened under Obama
WASHINGTON (AP) ' Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says prospects for Israeli-Palestinian peace are far worse now than when she left office.
Rice partly blames the Obama administration's tough line against Israeli settlement-building for spoiling chances for new talks.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Rice says she had hoped the Obama administration could revive stalled peace talks quickly when it took office in 2009. But she says the tough stance against any new Israeli housing construction in the West Bank was "a mistake."
A detailed account of negotiations she helped broker in 2008 is a highlight of Rice's new memoir, titled "No Higher Honor."In the book, which was published Tuesday, Rice concedes some missteps by the Bush administration on several fronts but strongly defends efforts toward Mideast peace.
