Mexico City prosecutor: Robbery motive in killings of 2 women
By The Associated Press

MEXICO CITY (AP) ' Robbery was the motive in the killings of two women whose bound, naked bodies were found in a park on Sept. 1, said Mexico City's chief prosecutor Tuesday.

The victims Marcela Yarce, who helped found a political magazine, and Rocio Gonzalez had been journalists but were no longer reporting. But authorities have referred to them as journalists.

Prosecutor Miguel Mancera said two men have been detained in the case placed under house arrest while prosecutors gather more evidence to charge them in the deaths. The fingerprints of one of them were found inside the vehicle of one of the journalists.

Mancera said late Monday the men stole one million pesos ($71,800) in cash the two women had offered to change to dollars.

Yarce sold advertising for the news magazine Contralinea. Gonzalez, a former reporter for the Televisa network, owned a money-exchange business.
