Romney adds to lead in race for convention delegates with win in Arizona primary
WASHINGTON (AP) ' Mitt Romney has added to his lead in the race for convention delegates with a win in the Arizona Republican presidential primary.
The former Massachusetts governor won all 29 delegates in Arizona, a rare winner-take-all state. Voters also went to the polls in Michigan on Tuesday, with 30 delegates up for grabs.
Both states were penalized half their delegates for holding early contests against party rules.
Romney has a total of 152 delegates, including endorsements from Republican National Committee members who automatically attend the party's national convention and can support any candidate they choose.
Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum has 72 delegates, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has 32 delegates and Texas Rep. Ron Paul has 19.
It takes 1,144 delegates to win the Republican nomination for president.
