Romney and Perry ding each other on jobs records during debate at Reagan library
SIMI VALLEY, Calif. (AP) ' Texas Gov. Rick Perry and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney jabbed each other on jobs at the opening of a Republican presidential debate.
Perry said Wednesday night that Americans are looking for a presidential candidate who can get Americans working again. He touted his record in Texas while criticizing Romney's tenure leading Massachusetts.
Romney says that as governor of Massachusetts, he oversaw more jobs created in his state than President Barack Obama has overseen nationwide.
Perry sniped back that another former Massachusetts governor, Democrat Michael Dukakis, created jobs three times faster in Massachusetts than Romney did. Romney shot back that then-Texas Gov. George W. Bush created jobs more quickly than Perry did in the state.
The pair has been strongly competing for the support of business leaders.
