SKorean official travels to NKorea to monitor aid
South Korea sends government official to North Korea to monitor humanitarian aid distribution
By The Associated Press

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) ' A South Korean official is heading to North Korea to help monitor the distribution of aid, the first time in three years that Seoul is joining a humanitarian mission to Pyongyang.

South Korea's Unification Ministry says the official left for Pyongyang on Friday with four aid workers. He's expected to stay until Tuesday to help monitor the distribution of flour for North Korean children.

The trip is the latest sign that tensions are easing between the rival Koreas. Relations have been strained since South Korean President Lee Myung-bak took office in 2008. They dropped to their lowest point after a North Korean artillery attack killed four South Koreans a year ago.
