Settlers clash with Israeli troops in West Bank, along Jordan border
By The Associated Press

JERUSALEM (AP) ' The Israeli military says Jewish settlers have clashed with troops at an army base in the West Bank and along the territory's border with Jordan.

The protests are a sign of growing animosity between extremist settlers and the soldiers tasked with guarding them.

The military says in a statement that about 50 activists entered an army base in the West Bank early Tuesday, then lit fires and damaged vehicles. The Israeli news site Ynet reports that they were protesting planned evacuations of unauthorized settlement outposts.

Late Monday, a different group entered a closed military zone along the West Bank's border with Jordan and took over an abandoned structure. Police say all 17 people involved in the border protest are currently under arrest.
