Long championship contest between St. Louis, Texas helps Fox raise World Series ratings
NEW YORK (AP) ' A seven-game World Series was a thrill for baseball fans. Same thing for Fox.
Nielsen said Tuesday that the St. Louis Cardinals' seven-game victory over the Texas Rangers averaged 16.2 million viewers. Last year's five-game contest between Texas and San Francisco had 14.3 million.
Generally the longer a Series goes, the better it does in ratings ' and this year was no exception. The Cards' miraculous comeback in Game 6 was seen by more than 21 million people, and their Game 7 win reached more than 25 million.
Meanwhile, CBS' "60 Minutes" had its best ratings in nearly three years among younger viewers for its interview with the wife and son of disgraced financier Bernard Madoff.
