Chicago police officer allegedly killed by grandson she took in remembered as devoted, loving
CHICAGO (AP) ' The family of a slain Chicago police officer says they begged her to put her troubled teenage grandson in an institution.
Neighbors talked Monday about Hester Scott's devotion to 15-year-old Keshawn Perkins, who is charged as an adult with first-degree murder and robbery. Prosecutors say he beat Scott with a lamp and stabbed her. The public defender's office did not immediately return a call Monday.
As Scott's family plans her funeral, they also want to get something back for the 25-year police officer: Her badge. The department had relieved her of her police powers after the teen made allegations ' never proven ' that Scott abused him.
Marlene Scott-Pittman says her sister never hurt her grandson, and restoring her badge would be important to Scott's children and other grandchildren.
