Slain woman's family haunted by ride with stranger
AP Interview: Family of slain pregnant woman haunted by her decision to get in stranger's car
By The Associated Press

MILWAUKEE (AP) ' The family of a pregnant woman who was killed and the fetus sliced from her womb doesn't understand why she would have gotten into the car of someone she didn't know.

Investigators say Martiza Ramirez-Cruz was the victim of a woman who was desperate to give her boyfriend a son but was unable to conceive. Thirty-three-year-old Annette Morales-Rodriguez is accused of luring the young Puerto Rican immigrant into her car, taking her home, beating her with a baseball bat and cutting her full-term fetus from her womb. The mother and baby both died.

The criminal complaint says the suspect told investigators she offered 23-year-old Ramirez-Cruza a ride and the younger woman accepted.

Morales-Rodriguez's brother-in-law, Josue Garcia, says the family doesn't understand why Morales-Rodriguez got into a stranger's car.
