Small plane crashes into building near hospital in central Calif., killing 2 people on board
By The Associated Press

WATSONVILLE, Calif. (AP) ' A small plane crashed into a central California hospital's unoccupied office building and burst into flames just after takeoff Thursday evening, killing two people on board the plane, authorities said.

Watsonville Deputy Police Chief Rudy Escalante says the single-engine plane crashed into a parking lot in front of the medical office building and skidded about 50 to 75 yards before crashing into the building.

Escalante says no one on the ground was injured.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford says the plane had just taken off from nearby Watsonville Municipal Airport when it crashed at around 7:30 p.m.
