By The Associated Press

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) ' Officials say five people have been killed and one child is missing in a landslide in southern Seoul as heavy rains pound South Korea.

Officials say 12 other people were also killed in an earlier landslide in a northern South Korean town Wednesday. Two others are also missing in Chuncheon, about 68 miles (110 kilometers) northeast of Seoul.

South Korea has been pummeled with strong rain this week.

About 15 inches (nearly 400 millimeters) of rain fell in Seoul in just 17 hours starting Tuesday afternoon. More than 10 inches (250 millimeters) fell on Chuncheon in the last two days.

Weather officials say another 10 inches could fall through Friday in northern South Korea, including Seoul, parts of which are flooded from the rains.
