By The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) ' Nine stainless steel sculptures of various geometric shapes will tower over Manhattan's Park Avenue in an art project by Venezuelan sculptor Rafael Barrios.

Each of the works weighs about 2,200 pounds and stands over 20 feet tall. They will be installed along the stately avenue from 51st to 67th street. The artworks are being installed Saturday and will be up until June 30.

Barrios said he hopes New Yorkers will have fun looking at the sculptures.

The 64-year-old artist says he feels proud and happy to be able to do the project. He said it shows that Latin American art is beginning to have an international impact.

The installation is a project of the Fund of Park Avenue, the Park Avenue Malls and the city's Department of Parks and Recreation.
