PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) ' A suicide bomber attacked a funeral service in northwest Pakistan on Thursday, killing at least six people and wounding several more, police said.
The blast took place in the Lower Dir region, which lies close to the Afghan border. Police officer Mohibullah Khan said the death toll could rise.
It was not immediately clear why the funeral was targeted or who was being buried.
Like much of northwest Pakistan, Lower Dir regularly sees violence between Islamist militants and security forces. Militants often target tribesmen opposed to their rule.
On Monday, Taliban gunmen killed four children as they were returning from school close to the main northwestern city of Peshawar.
The insurgents said the attack was aimed at stopping locals there supporting a tribal militia that is fighting the militants.
