Suspected cockfight organizers face charges after 3 men fatally shot at South Texas ranch
McALLEN, Texas (AP) ' Authorities in South Texas say suspects accused of running an illegal cockfighting operation where three people were killed and eight others injured by masked gunmen are set to be arraigned on unspecified charges.
A statement from the Hidalgo County sheriff's office says Sheriff Lupe Trevino will speak about the investigation following the hearings Friday afternoon. The statement provides no details about the suspects or charges.
Masked gunmen ambushed a cockfight on a ranch near Edcouch about 15 miles northeast of McAllen early Thursday, killing two brothers, ages 49 and 53, and a 42-year-old man.
Regular weekly cockfights at the ranch were drawing 50 to 60 people. The shooting broke out shortly after midnight and left a scene scattered with beer cans and dead roosters.
The gunmen remain at large.
