By The Associated Press

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) ' A television show that debuts next week focuses on missing person cases involving black Americans.

The series "Find Our Missing" debuts Jan. 18 on TV One. The narrator is actress S. Epatha Merkerson, who is turning to real-life crime stories after 16 years of playing a police lieutenant on NBC's "Law & Order."

Producers say about a third of the country's missing people are black, even though blacks make up about 12 percent of the population. National media tends to emphasize cases involving whites, particularly young, attractive white women.

TV One president Wonya Lucas said Saturday that's a void the network hopes to fill.
