Texas death row inmate loses final appeal
Texas inmate who blamed shooting spree on 9/11 retaliation loses last appeal to stop execution
By The Associated Press

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) ' A Texas death row inmate has lost a final court appeal to stop his execution for killing a convenience store clerk during a shooting that he says was retaliation for the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals refused to stop Wednesday evening's execution of Mark Stroman. Appeals also were turned down earlier Wednesday by the U.S. Supreme Court.

The 41-year-old Stroman says his shooting spree that killed two men and injured a third in 2001 targeted people of Middle Eastern descent. It was the death of 49-year-old Vasudev Patel that put Stroman on death row.

The lone survivor, Rais (Raze) Bhuiyan (Boo-yon), a native of Bangladesh, had sued to stop the execution, saying his religious beliefs as a Muslim told him to forgive. The courts refused.
