Western Digital says flooding in Thailand has disrupted its production of computer hard drives
BANGKOK (AP) ' Western Digital Corp., one of the world's largest manufacturers of hard drives for personal computers, said severe flooding has halted production at its crucial Thai factory.
The company said production in Thailand, where it makes about 60 percent of its hard drives, would be "constrained" in the current quarter.
Thailand's worst floods in half a century have killed more than 280 people since late July, swamped more than two-thirds of country and inflicted billions of dollars in damage.
Western Digital shipped nearly 54 million hard drives in the April-June quarter with 60 percent of those made at its plant near the Thai capital Bangkok. The remainder were produced in neighboring Malaysia.
Other technology companies including Microsemi Corp. and ON Semiconductor have reported production disruptions in Thailand because of the flooding.
