Throng of Occupy protesters appears in NYC court
Nearly 170 Occupy protesters are appearing in NYC court; many take judge's dismissal offer
By The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) ' Arraignments have been under way in New York City for nearly 170 Occupy Wall Street demonstrators.

The group Wednesday was part of about 300 people expected to answer charges this week.

Most face such charges as disorderly conduct and blocking traffic.

Many are taking an offer from a judge to get their cases dismissed by avoiding rearrest for six months.

More than 1,000 people have been arrested during Occupy demonstrations in New York. Many have been to court, but this week's numbers are some of the biggest.

More than 700 of the protesters were arrested on the Brooklyn Bridge. Police say protesters ignored their warnings. Many demonstrators say they didn't hear the warnings or thought police were leading them onto the roadway.
