Titanic survivors' descendants to gather at museums in Missouri, Tennessee to recall disaster
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) ' One hundred years after the Titanic sank, 40 of the survivors' descendants are gathering to remember the infamous maritime disaster at a pair of U.S. museums co-owned by an explorer of the wreckage.
The music resort town of Branson, Mo., is home to one of the nation's largest collections of Titanic memorabilia. It will mark the anniversary Saturday with musical performances and appearances by descendants of the victims.
Similar events are planned in the vacation town of Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
Ceremonies will include a re-enactment of the launching of the ship's distress flares and the lighting of a memorial flame.
Those participating include the grandsons of the ship's second mate and a 9-year-old boy placed in one of the last lifeboats lowered into the freezing Atlantic Ocean.
