Top House tax-writer says he'll listen to Romney ideas on limiting some tax breaks for wealthy
WASHINGTON (AP) ' The top tax writer in the House says he'll listen to ideas by likely Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney for limiting some tax breaks for the wealthy, but he isn't committing himself to adopting them.
House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp, R-Mich., told reporters Monday that he would listen very carefully to Romney's proposals. But he noted that the candidate's ideas won't necessarily be ones his panel adopts.
On Sunday, reporters overheard Romney telling people at a private fundraiser in Florida that, to pay for his proposed income tax rate cuts, he would probably end the tax break high earners can take for mortgages on second homes.
