Tory Burch's muse has a crush on the bad boy
At NY Fashion Week, Tory Burch's ladylike muse is ready for her bad-boy romance
By The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) ' Tory Burch's Valentine's Day gift to New York Fashion Week was a runway backstory of a sheltered ' and well-dressed young woman ' running off with a little bit of a bad boy.

It was a coincidence that her show fell on Valentine's Day, Burch said, but added, "Everyone has been there, liking that guy."

The woman's wardrobe evolved in front of the crowd at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall on Tuesday, starting with the oatmeal-colored embroidered coat that opened the show to a hand-painted leather jacket. Burch's muse never crossed a line, always remembering her bow-blouse and pearl-embellished roots, but she definitely gained an edge with slim pencil skirts and shiny gold thread woven into her tweed.

"I try to make it young using classic items with a little sexiness that's understated," Burch said backstage.

She added, "It's tailored but I wanted to bring out the woman ' nipped waists on tailored suits, snug knits that aren't too baggy."

The first piece headed to the closet of the woman Burch has in mind was the cropped peplum sweater, paired on the model with tight leather pants decorated with red, white and navy hand-painted stripes.

There were dressier looks, too, including a light tan lace-and-chiffon sheath and a gray-and-black tulle cardigan and matching dress decorated with beads. A metallic floral print dress was topped by a metallic knit cardigan, while a blush-colored tulle dress had a floral applique bodice and a crinkled gold skirt.

Burch accessorized many outfits with the long, leather opera gloves that have graced many catwalks during this round of previews.
