Commuters from southern Indiana into Louisville, Ky., stymied by closed Ohio River bridge
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) ' Monday morning commuters trying to cross the Ohio River between Indiana and Kentucky are enduring a traffic nightmare after officials suddenly closed one of three bridges that help move some 80,000 vehicles daily.
Local media early Monday showed cars stretching for miles in southern Indiana.
On Friday, officials found cracks in the steel on the Sherman Minton Bridge and shut it down.
Over the weekend, transportation officials mapped out detours. Many southern Indiana commuters who work in Louisville, Ky., were trying to cross two other bridges.
Traffic in Kentucky, however, was clear heading into what is known as "Spaghetti Junction." However, the opposite commute in the afternoon into Indiana is expected to be just as bad.
