In San Francisco talk, Treasury Secretary Geithner stresses US-China economic interdependence
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ' Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is in San Francisco to talk about the Obama Administration's economic achievements both in the United States and abroad.
According to a copy of his prepared remarks, the main topic of Geithner's speech before members of the Commonwealth Club is creating a mutually beneficial relationship between the United States and China.
He says expanding opportunities for U.S. companies to export and sell to China, and encouraging Beijing to move away from an export-oriented growth model are central to that goal.
Geithner also is using the occasion to argue that President Barack Obama has implemented an effective strategy for shoring up the American economy, but that growth remains susceptible to global events outside the U.S.
